The Artist's Guide to Finding Inspiration: Featuring the March Edit

The Artist's Guide to Finding Inspiration: Featuring the March Edit

We ALL have creative potential, however it's often believed that we either "got it" or "we don't." It's time to change that mindset and think of being artistic as if it's a muscle that needs to be worked out (and flexed!). Have you always wanted to learn to paint? Start painting today. Dream of writing a short story or even a full-length novel? Start writing now. Looking to master a new instrument? Start learning music. Embrace that journey of self-improvement and creative growth.

We know, we know—sparking creativity can be challenging, which is why we're sharing creative tips on how to spark the creativity that lives within us all, drawing from Julia Cameron's transformative guide, The Artist's Way. Through the ebb and flow of our creative journey, The March Edit took shape. From the design process to the final photo shoot, we embraced a coastal + artistic vibe, creating minimalist jewelry that captures the serene colors and gentle curves of ocean waves.

Morning Rituals & Creative Recovery

Morning rituals and creative discovery with the use of journaling and reflecting.

Everyone, yes EVERYONE, encounters creative blocks. Sometimes all it takes is getting your thoughts out– they don’t have to be for anything or anyone. The Artist's Way assigns homework (it's been a while since that word has applied to some of us, lol) called "morning pages", a form of creative journaling that can kickstart your day. The concept is simple: write three full pages of longhand writing first thing in the morning, without worrying about grammar or structure, just letting your thoughts flow freely! This creative exercise helps boost creativity and clear the mind. Here's the catch – you're NOT allowed to look back at these pages (at least for 12 weeks). The goal is to release mental clutter onto the page and create space for fresh ideas.

Synchronicity

When we protect our creative space and stay open to possibilities, synchronicity has room to work its magic.

Creative blocks are often temporary setbacks that can be overcome with consistency and self-reflection, Julia Cameron teaches. The approach emphasizes the importance of faith—not necessarily religious, but a general trust in the process and belief in your creative journey. In other terms, she links this to the concept of synchronicity—where seemingly unrelated events happen by chance but feel deeply connected. It's the kind of positive energy where you expect good to happen, so good will happen.

But there’s a catch: synchronicity can only flow when we create space for it. This involves setting healthy boundaries with what Cameron calls "crazymakers"—those people and situations that drain our creative energy. When we protect our creative space and remain open to possibilities, synchronicity has room to work its magic.

The Art of Self-Discovery

The art of self-discovery by learning to be alone and with your thoughts.

Self-discovery is an essential part of nurturing your creativity. You've probably heard the saying before, "you can't pour from an empty cup," which perfectly illustrates how creative energy works—you need to refill your artistic well before you can create freely. In other words, it's time to embrace solitude and reconnect with yourself. Cameron calls this practice an 'Artist Date'—a solo excursion where you do something purely for fun and inspiration, completely unrelated to work. Think visiting a museum, taking a nature walk, exploring a new neighborhood, or even just browsing a craft store—any solo creative activities that spark joy and fill your cup.

Embracing the Process

Embrace the process of self-reflection, taking tiny bits of steps forward as progress.

Let's be real—creativity isn't always rainbows and butterflies. Sometimes that blank canvas (or page, or whatever you're working with) feels more like it's staring you down rather than inspiring you. And that's totally okay! Cameron reminds us that creativity is not about perfection; it’s about showing up and taking tiny steps forward. Instead of setting huge goals like 'I’m going to write a novel,' try starting your goals with 'I’m going to write for 10 minutes today.' Breaking down your creative goals into manageable tasks makes them way less scary. This approach turns your creative dreams into actionable, bite-sized pieces.

Finding Inspiration in the Everyday

Keep your eyes open for the tiny bits of happiness that most people rush by.

Here's a little secret: inspiration isn't only hiding in art galleries or Pinterest boards—it's everywhere! Cameron encourages us to become "artists with spy glasses," noticing the little things that most people rush past. The trick isn’t waiting for creativity to strike suddenly (though wouldn't that be nice?); it’s about staying curious and keeping your eyes and creative mind open. Think of it as collecting tiny bits of everyday inspiration and magic—you never know which one might spark your next creative adventure!

Wave Cuff

Hand-forged to mirror the gentle curve of ocean waves, this minimalist cuff represents the natural flow of creativity. Some days the waves are big, others they're small, but they keep rolling in—just like your creative practice. Layer it with other pieces or let it stand alone as a reminder to keep flowing.

The Quinn Chain was made to sparkle in the sun—which is partially why we named it the Seaside Lariat! With a delicate drop of the Seafoam Stone, this necklace embodies the effortless movement we all strive for in our creative practice.

This ring stack from the March Edit features the new Isla Ring with the Midi Wrap Ring and Ophelia Band.
